Abstract

Secretory component is a glycoprotein produced by glandular epithelia and localized on the basolateral membrane of epithelial cells. SC functions as a receptor for J chain-containing polymeric IgA and IgM, and facilitates the transport of polymeric immunoglobulins through the epithelium to the lumen. It has been reported that some antisera to human SC cross-react with galactosyltransferase (GT) because of copurification of SC and GT from human milk as previously described.1,2 In this study, we have attempted to produce an antibody to SC without crossreactivity to GT using a part of human SC cDNA.
