Abstract

Summary The antibiotics streptomycin, kanamycin, erythromycin, roscillin, doxycycline, benzylpenicillin and chloramphenicol stimulated rooting on excised green gram ( Vigna radiata ) cuttings. With certain concentrations of chloramphenicol, doxycycline, streptomycin and roscillin, more roots were initiated than in IAA-treatments. Low concentrations of erythromycin (0.1 μg·ml -1 ) and roscillin (1.0 μg·ml -1 ) advanced the appearance of root primordia on the cuttings by a day. Certain concentrations of streptomycin, roscillin, erythromycin and doxycycline enhanced the growth of roots.
