Abstract

ABSTRACT An important longstanding complication of tracheostomy is tracheal granuloma, others being tracheal stenosis, mucus plug obstruction, etc. These complications may be life-threatening, if the obstruction is significant enough to cause airway compromise. Airway management and adequate access for surgery are mandatory challenges in a compromised airway which is shared between surgeon and anaesthesiologist. Fiberoptic bronchoscopy (FOB) is the gold standard tool for preoperative evaluation and awake intubation using cuffed Microlaryngeal tube in these patients. Trans-stomal approach with short-length wide-lumen endoscope is useful for the safe and complete excision of the anterior tracheal wall mass. Copyright © 2014, Indian Journal of Medical Specialities.
