Abstract

An antenna with omnidirectional E-plane pattern is developed for Ka band applications. The omnidirectional pattern is achieved by illuminating an inverted cone with an open-end circular waveguide operating in TE <sub xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">01</sub> mode. A converter which transfers TE <sub xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">10</sub> mode of a rectangular waveguide to TE <sub xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">01</sub> mode of the circular waveguide is also designed as part of the antenna. Simulated results show that the proposed antenna achieves Return Loss levels less than -10dB and omnidirectional radiation patterns in the frequency band form 27GHz to 33 GHz.
