Abstract

Traditional method of antenna system investigation (in a broad frequency range in particular) using harmonic signals require considerable time and equipment engagement. A perspective trend is the application of time-pulse methods based on the usage of picosecond duration electromagnetic pulses. The time domain method implementation provides high grade measurements of various broad frequency range antenna (characteristics without using expensive) anechoic chambers. The antenna system characteristic measurement process is based on the excitation of antenna under investigation by an electromagnetic pulse field. Due to electromagnetic field pulse nature and its location in space it is possible to take in to consideration the ground reflecting (underlying) surface and the material capability to absorb electromagnetic radiation. In this case it is necessary to carry out the time selection of signals registered at the investigation antenna output by means of a weighting function (time window).
