Abstract

Three patients with anomalous formation of intraocular adipose tissue had in common an ensheathment of the optic nerve and replacement of the leptomeninges by adipose tissue. Case 1 showed a colobomatous microphthalmia and the presence of adipose tissue and other heteroplastic elements within the globe and adjacent to an optic nerve coloboma. Case 2 also showed adipose tissue deposition adjacent to an optic nerve coloboma. Case 3 was unique in that there was no coloboma present to explain the faulty tissue induction.
