Abstract
Introduction: The correct disposal of biological materials is important for the health of the whole population, thus avoiding soil contamination and preventing accidents with sharp-perforated materials. The Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária – (ANVISA) has established rules for an appropriate disposal of the biological waste such as incineration, grounding and radiation. These rules are applied to laboratories, hospitals, clinics, doctors' offices and other health facilities. Objective: To analyze the disposal of biological waste by the laboratories of the city of Montes Claros, Minas Gerais. Methodology: A field study that presents a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional analysis with a population of four clinical analysis laboratories and a company responsible for the final waste disposal. Questionnaires were applied for a better analysis of the data. Results: The results indicate that the laboratories participating in the research are aware of ANVISA standards and they are concerned about their collaborators and the population, making sure that they are not putting them at risk. Conclusion: The training of professionals is necessary to avoid accidents with perforating materials.
