Abstract
A geometric interpretation of the interacting boson model (IBM) is studied within a framework of the coherent-state method. Effects of the angular momentum projection in the description of shape transitions and in the procedure of resolution of the IBM Hamiltonian into the intrinsic and collective parts are investigated. The projection may be crucial in obtaining a reasonable geometric picture of the IBM. The geometric interpretation of the O(6) limit of the IBM is discussed.
