Abstract

ABSTRACTA new connection system is introduced in this paper for seismically repairable steel connections. It is aimed to concentrate the inelastic deformations within the added segment such that only this part suffers seismic damage. The segment acts as a passive damper and consists of a rubber layer and several steel bolts. The rubber layer bears the vertical reaction in the connection and restores the initial position of the assembly after removing the damaged bolts. The steel bolts are meant to absorb the seismic input energy by their inelastic action and keep the story beam and column away from damage.
