Abstract

This paper analyzed the scientific & technical traffic data from the in Jilin Province. The Structure of the High Fill Culvert in Mountain Areas, including the structure from of high fill culverts were further researched in this article. Combined with the nonlinear soil pressure calculation theory of unloading arch and the variational rule of soil pressure of the high fill culverts along with the fill height and the precarious characteristics of arch effect, the new structure form fitting for high fill culverts were put forward. The arch ring of arch culvert and slab culverts were replaced by prefab reinforced concrete bars with little curvature. These arches were connected with concrete abutment capping. Using finite element theory, the load bearing superiority and rationality of prefab reinforced concrete bar with little curvature arches (ratio of rise to span is 1/20, arch axis is circular arc line, the other dimensions are the same as the slab culvert) was analyzed under the same load. The results show that under the condition of the same fill height, the midspan moment will decrease by 16.1% using hinge-jointed little curvature arch bars with little curvatures. The midspan moment decreased by 7.4% by using rigid- connected little curvature arch bars. In the high fill culverts, the use of prefab reinforced concrete bar with little curvature arches reduced the erection time, decreased costs by 25%, and increased the safety coefficient. The use of these bars are considered to be promising for future culvert applications.
