Abstract

The study of the behaviour of vane-spring structures subjected to static and fatigue loading is presented in this contribution. A simple analytical model using the curved cantilever beam theory was developed for a specific type of vane-spring structure to determine the spring stiffness and to check for possible materials failure due to static and fatigue load conditions. A finite element analysis using a commercially available finite element method computer programme was used to provide a source for comparison. Comparative results are presented for two new vane-spring structures with different geometrical properties. Simple static tests to determine the spring stiffnesses of various sectional spring diameters were performed and results obtained verify the validity of the analytical model.
