Abstract

This paper describes the influence of urbanization on urban heat island phenomenon in Osaka region. The meteorological elements were calculated using the meso-scale meteorological model WRF. First, under the present land use, the case using the Urban Canopy Model (UCM) and the case of no use of UCM were calculated and these calculation accuracies were discussed. Second, the present land use case was compared with the case that the city does not exist using the potential natural vegetation to examine the effects of the urbanization. As a result, the case using the Urban Canopy Model, for the most part, gave better results on the comparison between the calculated and observed values. The difference of the air temperature between the present and potential natural case was the largest at 20:00 and the smallest at 10:00. And it was broadly 3-4 degrees in present urban area at 20:00. The sea breeze under the present case was shorter reaching distance and weaker wind velocity than under the potential natural case.
