Abstract

Aerosol mass spectrometry (AMS) is a real-time technique capable of simultaneously sizing and speciating single particles. The future of AMS depends upon its capacity to analyze ultrafine particles and particle-bound organic molecules. Presently, aerodynamic particle focusing and laser-based vaporization and ionization hold the greatest promise to achieve these goals.
