Abstract

The dielectric constant of a homogeneous, fully ionized two-temperature plasma is investigated to determine: (1) the conditions under which ion waves will be found; (2) accurate values for the phase velocity and damping rate of the ion waves; (3) the validity of approximate expressions for the ion wave phase velocity and damping; (4) the behavior of the dynamic shielding factor when ion waves are possible.
