Abstract

This paper presents a new approach to the analysis of bending-torsional stress and vibration as well as lateral buckling of the truss bridge as a space structure having wide steel decks as chord parts. First, the discrete truss structure is transformed into a continuous structural model to solve the problem concerned by means of differential equations as derived below. Then, the continuous structural model is again separated into beam sections for which the finite element method is worked out. Finally, free vibrations of single-span and three-span continuous truss bridges are given as examples.
