Abstract

A large amount of harmonic current flows in the converter transformer, causing an increase in winding vibration and harmonic content. In this paper, the harmonic current features and winding vibration characteristics of converter transformers are investigated in three parts: theoretical derivation, modeling simulation and field test. First, the mechanism of harmonic current and winding vibration of converter transformer is analyzed, and the reason of winding vibration harmonic growth is clarified from the theoretical aspect. Then, a high-voltage DC transmission system is built to determine the winding harmonic current components and the variation pattern of the total harmonic distortion with the transmission power. Finally, the relationship between the vibration response characteristics and the harmonic current over a period is investigated by measuring the vibration signals of the converter transformer in operation. The research results lay a certain foundation for online monitoring and fault diagnosis of converter transformer windings based on vibration signals.
