Red chili (Capsicum annum L.) is one type of horticultural commodity with a high level of consumption and production. Jember Regency is one of the regencies in East Java Province where the cultivation of large red chilies is quite high. The results of preliminary observations in the field indicate that several problems have occurred, such as an imbalance in the distribution of risk among supply chain actors. Farmers as the main actors in the supply chain have the highest risk of crop failure due to seasonal uncertainty. Supply chain analysis and evaluation will provide information about the problems contained in the supply chain, which will then identify the risks causing the supply chain to be less than optimal and determine the direction of continuous, effective, and efficient improvement in the supply chain of large red chilies. This study aims to minimize or eliminate the impact of risks that occur during large red chili supply chain activities in the Ambulu District. This research was conducted by applying the SCOR model for supply chain activity mapping and the House Of Risk (HOR) model for supply chain risk management. The identification results show that large red chili supply chain activities in Ambulu District have four activity patterns, then there are 28 risk events and 24 risk agents that occur in large red chili supply chain activities. Based on the calculation results, the results are in the form of seven risk management strategies in the large red chili supply chain which consist of conducting routine evaluations, choosing the right pesticides, collaborating with the local government, conducting routine treatment on plants, training workers, farming management, and counseling on the selection of the right seeds to farmers.

The market for second-hand and refurbished goods continues to record strong growth in most economies around the world. One obvious motivating factor in consumer choice of second-hand goods is price affordability. However, as the used market evolves, especially with the adoption of online e-commerce platforms, consumers’ inclination for used goods have also become complex. This paper investigates other appealing factors beyond price affordability (cost saving) in consumer choice of usable electronic goods. To do this, a consumer preference model was designed to reveal the key factors that drive consumer choices in the used electronic goods market. A case study using an emerging economy (Czech Republic) where used goods outlets are rampant coupled with the propensity for used electronic gadgets. The study adopted a simple random technique geared towards all the regions in the Czech Republic. The aggregate conjoint analysis method was used to model consumer preferences to determine the importance they attach to attributes most considered by consumers in the online used goods transactions. The result indicates that in respect of online purchases of used electronic appliances, a product’s ‘number of years in use’ is the next most important motivating factor after cost saving (price affordability). The study would help give a general insight into consumer preferences in the used electronic goods market.

Brand is a product attribute that, for many types of goods or services, makes a major contribution to consumer preferences. Conjoint analysis is a useful technique for the assessment of brand values for a given consumer or group of consumers. In this paper, an application of conjoint analysis to the estimation of brand values in the Spanish daily newspaper market is reported. Four newspaper attributes were considered: brand (i.e., newspaper name), price (0.60, 1.05, or 1.50 euros), Sunday supplement (yes/no), and daily pullout (yes/no). A total of 510 regular readers of the national press, stratified by age and sex, were asked to rank 16 profiles representing an orthogonal fraction of the possible attribute-level combinations. Brand was by far the most important attribute, whereas price had negligible effect. More generally, the results confirm the utility of conjoint analysis for assessing brand equity in the newspaper market and for estimating the relative importance of the various attributes to different subgroups of consumers.

Using conjoint analysis methodology, this study used an online survey to measure consumers’ preferences for the apple attributes as place of production, method of production, and price. The results of the conjoint analysis indicate that consumers are willing to make trade offs between the studied attributes. Segment analysis indicates Place-oriented consumers may be willing to pay 60% to 70% premiums for locally grown apples. The high consumer preferences for locally grown products combined with environmental benefits transferred through genetic modification provide an opportunity for producers to capture and build their markets, especially within certain market segments.

Chili peppers (Capsicum annuum), in their many varieties, constitute a culturally and economically important horticultural crop in a number of countries. The Indonesian cayenne large red chili (Capsicum annuum var. annuum) is used widely in Indonesia mainly in cooking. There have been reports of increased infestation of large red chili by insect pests, particularly fruit flies. The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of five edible vegetable oils (palm oil, coconut oil, soybean oil, corn oil, and candlenut oil) and one non-edible vegetable oil (neem oil) in reducing landings, oviposition, and infestation by the Oriental fruit fly (Bactrocera dorsalis Hendel) in large red chili fruits. This lab-based experiment entailed exposure of large red chili fruits to 20 mature B. dorsalis females (14–21 days old) inside a 15-l plastic container. Six separate containers each held 10 large red chili fruits with a single oil treatment in each. Prior to exposure, each of the treated and control large red chili fruits was punctured once with a needle in order to create an opening for oviposition. Results indicate that the coconut oil formulation was most effective in preventing damage from B. dorsalis females, and reducing fruit fly landings, oviposition, and infestation.

THIS paper explores the reasons for and determinants of the provision by a firm of false information to a consumer so as to induce purchases which would not be made if the consumer possessed full information about the qualities of his purchase. Market responses to potential for fraud are analyzed in detail. It is shown that fraud and related practices follow from significant costs both in the determination of quality of a particular good or service and in the effective vertical integration of seller and buyer through some exchange of property rights. Much of our discussion focuses on the key problem of the joint provision of diagnosis and services-such as the choice and execution of an automobile repair or taxicab route--but the model developed will be seen to have general applicability whenever the seller provides information which influences purchases, as through advertising or salesmen's promises. In the context of the repair problem, we explore the reasons for and the determinants of the provision of repair services in amounts greater than would be economically efficient, given the price of the services and their marginal product in terms of the service flow from the repaired commodity.' The possibility of this situation is suggested by the observation that in a considerable number of cases involving medical, automotive, and other repair services, contrary to the basic assumption of conventional demand theory, the consumer is unaware of the ability of the repair service to satisfy a given want.2

Large red chili is one of the mainstay agricultural commodities in Karanganyar Village. Production of 85 tons of large red chili can be obtained by farmers, if there is abundant production. Every time the harvest of large red chili is not always perfect, there is often an imperfect shape of chili. Farmers usually call a large red chili reject, with a percentage of 10% (8.5 tons) each time. The price of this large red chili is cheaper than the large red chili that looks perfect. The goal to be achieved in community service activities is to increase the income of the PKK group of women through the processing of various processed large red chilies into powder, shredded rice and sauce. The method is done by using lecture and demonstration methods accompanied by training materials, and delivered directly by conducting demonstration relating to the process of making powder, shredded and sauce starting from the handling of raw materials, how to use production equipment, the process of mixing materials, cooking to packaging. The overall results of partners can make a variety of processed large red chillies and can do the packaging well.
