Abstract

AimThe aim of the present study was to compare overall and anterior Bolton ratio in different malocclusion groups with Bolton standards. MethodsSample comprised of 509 pre-treatment casts taken from the department of Orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics. Bolton's ratio was measured in different malocclusion groups, and the results were compared with the standard Bolton values. Further ratios were calculated on gender basis and were compared with standard values. Data obtained was analyzed using student's t-test. ResultsStatistically significant differences were found for the whole study group and for overall ratios of class I group. Anterior ratio of class I, class II div 1 and class II div 2 also showed statistical significant differences. There was also significant difference in the overall ratio of male and anterior ratio of male and female groups, when compared with original Bolton standards. ConclusionBolton ratio in patients with malocclusion differ from Bolton standard.
