Abstract

The geometry of the mode converter that is required depends on the details of the two modes that are being interchanged. Nonperiodic variations structure can often be used to reduce the length of the converter, but in these devices, virtually all modes may experience significant mode conversion. The design methodology and numerical result for mode converter that are suitable for high-power microwave application are reported. Based on the mode coupling theory, design of TE01-TM11 mode converter geometry configuration with traditional waveguide axis constant curvature and improved waveguide axis sinusoidal curvature is given for more acceptable geometry parameters. The conversion efficiency of 8 mm high-power circular waveguide with waveguide axis sinusoidal curvature is about 99% with bandwidth of 32%.
