Abstract

Recent measurements of 50 MeV proton scattering from the ground and first excited states of 64Zn and 114Cd are analysed using the optical model, the strong coupling approximation (SCA) and the distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA). The results are used to throw light on optical-model parameter systematics in the energy range 30–78 MeV, to estimate the basic accuracy of optical-model cross-section predictions and to assess the relative merits of the SCA and DWBA methods of analysing inelastic scattering.
