Abstract
Burns are a common cause of pediatric injuries. The aim of this study was the assessment of etiology, epidemiology and results of treatment of pediatric burns. MaterialMedical charts of 357 patients treated because of burns in Pediatric Surgery Department between 2004 and 2009. ResultsThe most common cause of burns was hot liquids – in more than 90% of cases. In most cases patients were treated conservatively. 15 children needed surgical treatment. Time of hospitalization depended on the severity and area of burn. I and II degree burns healed with excellent cosmetic results. III and IV degree burns healed with formation of scars. ConclusionsResults of treatment depend on the area and severity of burn. Adequate treatment allows a good cosmetic and functional result.
