The Climate Village Program is a national program with a target of establishing 20,000 climate villages spread throughout Indonesia as an effort to control climate change in Indonesia. Implementation of the climate village program still requires strategies to increase the capacity for adaptation, mitigation, institutional strengthening and the number of climate villages. This research aims to analyze Proklim development strategies and priority strategies for Proklim development in Sidodadi Ramunia Village, Beringin District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province. The method used is qualitative with a survey approach and using SWOT and AHP analysis. This research began by identifying adaptation and mitigation actions that had been carried out by residents in Sidodadi Ramunia Village and then a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was carried out which resulted in 3 activity targets to be developed, namely (1) Increasing the use of organic fertilizer; (2) creation of a waste bank and (3) development of other locations to be proposed as climate villages. SWOT analysis is carried out to formulate alternative strategies for each activity target whose priority will be determined through AHP analysis using the expert choice 11 application. The results of the AHP analysis show that the strategic priority in developing climate villages is increasing the use of organic fertilizer with a weight value of 0.402 and an inconsistency value of 0. 05. This research shows that to increase the use of organic fertilizer, training and direct assistance in making quality organic fertilizer is needed which can ultimately trigger the community to sort organic and inorganic waste.

Arts-based methods are underutilized in violence research and may offer improved means of understanding these phenomena; but little is known about their value, especially in low-resource settings. A pilot study using a cross sectional sample was conducted in rural South Africa to determine the feasibility and acceptability of using arts-based methods in research with adults and children, in preparation for a longitudinal multigenerational cohort study on mechanisms that underly the intergenerational transmission of violence. Four arts-based methods were piloted with young adults aged 22-30 years (n = 29), children aged 4-7 years (n = 21) and former caregivers of the young adults aged 40-69 years (n = 11). A sample of qualitative interviews were audio recorded and transcribed (child n = 15, adults n = 19). Three focus group discussions (FGDs) were conducted to understand implementation and lessons learnt with the six interviewers on the study team, none of whom had used these methods in research before. Interviews and FGDs were audio recorded, transcribed and reviewed by the investigative team. Using a rapid analytical approach, our pilot study demonstrated that using arts and play-based methods in multigenerational violence research is feasible and acceptable to participants and interviewers. These methods worked well for nearly all participants regardless of age or ability and offered a comfortable and 'fun' way to engage in weighty conversations. They presented benefits in their capability to facilitate disclosure, expanding understanding, particularly around violence that is often a stigmatizing and sensitive experience. Interviewers required increased capacity and sensitivity in using the methods carefully, to maximize their full potential, and ongoing mentorship was indicated. Our study adds to the burgeoning evidence base of the effectiveness of the use of arts-based methods in health research.

Background: Focus group discussions are becoming an increasingly popular methodology in primary healthcare research. They can be used to understand people's beliefs, opinions and attitudes about the topic of interest. With the increasing emphasis on critical appraisal of scientific research, it is obvious that reporting qualitative research has to be transparent. Not only should the methodology itself be easy to understand and evaluate, but also the question whether focus group methodology is the most appropriate way to serve the research question should be answered. Focus group discussions are relatively new to biomedical journals, often resulting in misunderstanding and frustration for authors, reviewers and editors. Objectives: To develop a reliable and valid checklist for the critical appraisal of focus group research articles for the information of referees and editors of medical journals, commissioners of research, but most of all to help authors to report transparently. Methods: A review of the literature in different databases from 1990 to 2000 using the keywords “qualitative research”, “focus groups”, “methodology” and “standards” resulted in a checklist being issued. This checklist was submitted to an expert panel, its feasibility was addressed and the inter-rater agreement was assessed by members of the European General Practice Research Workshop. Results: A critical appraisal checklist for focus group research articles. Conclusions: The checklist does not replace training in the research method but it can act as a tool for authors, reviewers, editors and commissioners of research.
