Abstract
On global basis about 1660 species of whiteflies have been described so far. Though, an extensive review on the whitefly fauna are lacking from India but scattered literature available in many forms. As per record available up to 2015, 290 species of whiteflies belonging to 57 genera have already been published from India. About more than 100 species have been added along with their distribution from India. The taxonomic studies of whiteflies is based on characters of fully developed 4th pupal stages, due to the sessile nature of their puparium. Moreover, the whitefly specimens can easily be collected along with their puparirum from their host plants. Hence, in the paper, an effort has been done to update and to reinforce a check-list of whiteflies species till date along with their distribution, host plants and relevant reference. As per the updated check-list, the total number of whitefly species reported from India is about 406 under 60 genera, which is about 24.45% of all the species distributed all over the world.
