Abstract
This paper draws upon the final draft of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) proposed imaging standard, the initial draft of the International Standards Organization (ISO) proposed imaging standard, and the experience of the authors at ANSI and ISO to review progress on the Programmer's Imaging Kernel (PIK). This paper largely reflects the ANSI point of view but addresses several aspects from the early ISO work. ANSI's Programmer's Imaging Kernel has been the primary basis for ISO's Programmer's Imaging Kernel System (PIKS).
