Abstract

In this paper, an overview of recent advancements in theory and design of low-profile miniaturized antennas that can radiate purely vertical polarization is presented. Low profile antennas are desired for mobile platforms to reduce visibility and air drag. Also for operation in near ground communication at low VHF and HF bands, vertical polarization is highly desirable considering much higher path-loss for horizontally polarized wave propagation. In this paper designs and principles of operations of three different low-profile antennas with vertical polarization are presented.
