Abstract

A number of gases are reported that extend the range of CO <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf> laser lines able to be modulated by means of the molecular Stark effect. Data are presented on external modulation of the <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">00\deg1-10\deg0</tex> band in the <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">R</tex> branch by methyl fluoroform and in the <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">P</tex> branch by 1-1 difluoroethane. The gases fluoroethane, mono-methylamine, and methyl mercaptan and the vapors methanol and trichloroethylene are reported to modulate lines in the <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">P</tex> branch of the <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">00\deg1-02\deg0</tex> band.
