Abstract

Capture γ-ray spectra from the 40Ca(n, γ) reaction have been measured with a NaI detector for incident neutron energies up to 430 keV. Capture of d-wave neutrons followed by El transitions to the ground state of 41Ca has been observed and compared with predictions of the valence model. The l-wave dependence of the decoupling of El strength from the giant dipole resonance is investigated.
