Baidu migration scale index represents the human migration scale of a specific area in China, and it has been used widely in geo-economics, demography, and epidemiology. Nowadays, Baidu migration index is adopted as a key data source for studying epidemic models of COVID-19. But the index is just a dimensionless number, its constitution method is still ambiguous. In this paper, the index is assumed as an elementary function mapping result of the real human migrate populations. According to a hidden equation existing in the data set, the mapping function is deduced to be a linear function y=kx. Another key phenomenon in the data set is the minimum interval of the migration index. All the migration index values and their differentials are exactly divisible by this interval. Through Fermat-Euler Theorem, we prove the coprimeness of the human migrate populations, and then the relationship between the minimum interval and minimum counting unit of the migrate populations is built, which means k=3.24×10−5. In the experiments, the migration records between 01/01/2020−04/30/2020 are examined to verify the correctness of the hidden equation: while the rounding error is considered, there about 93.81% of the city-to-city migration records, 82.65% city-to-province migration records and 84.87% province-to-province migration records can support the equation exactly;the maximum absolute error of the violation records is 357 peoples, which corresponds to about 0.5% relative error. Regional infectious risk prediction of COVID-19 based on geo-spatial data.

After the first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was found, it is of considerable significance to divide the risk levels of various provinces or provincial municipalities in Mainland China and predict the spatial distribution characteristics of infectious diseases. In this paper, we predict the epidemic risk of each province based on geographical proximity information, spatial inverse distance information, economic distance and Baidu migration index. A simulation study revealed that the information based on geographical economy matrix and migration index could well predict the spatial spread of the epidemic. The results reveal that the accuracy rate of the prediction is over 87.10% with a rank difference of 3.1. The results based on prior information will guide government agencies and medical and health institutions to implement responses to major public health emergencies when facing the epidemic situation.

<title>Linear mapping functions for high-dimensional indexing in image databases</title>

The problem of indexing high-dimensional data has received renewed interest because of its necessity in emerging multimedia databases. The limitations of traditional tree-based indexing and the dimensionality curse is well known. We have proposed a hierarchical indexing structure based on linear mapping functions, which is not tree-based, and not necessarily balanced. At each level of the hierarchy, a linear mapping function is used to distribute the data among buckets. The feasibility and the performance of the indexing structure is dependent on finding appropriate mapping functions for any given data set. In this paper we present the approach taken in arriving at a few classes of mapping functions. We have given a heuristic algorithm to determine the choice of the most appropriate mapping function for a given data set. The results of experiments with real life data are presented and they indicate that the proposed indexing structure with linear mapping functions is indeed practical.

Analysis on early spatiotemporal transmission characteristics of COVID-19

<sec> In this paper, a simple susceptible-infected (SI) model is build for simulating the early phase of COVID-19 transmission process. By using the data collected from the newest epidemiological investigation, the parameters of SI model is estimated and compared with those from some other studies. The population migration data during Spring festival in China are collected from Baidu.com and also extracted from different news sources, the migration characteristic of Wuhan city in the early phase of the epidemic situation is captured, and substituted into a simple difference equation model which is modified from the SI model for supporting migrations. Then several simulations are performed for the spatiotemporal transmission process of COVID-19 in China. Some conclusions are drawn from simulations and experiments below. </sec><sec> 1) With 95% confidence, the infection rate of COVID-19 is estimated to be in a range of 0.2068–0.2073 in general situation, and the corresponding basic reproduction number <i>R</i><sub>0</sub> is estimated to be in a range of 2.5510–2.6555. A case study shows that under an extreme condition, the infection rate and <i>R</i><sub>0</sub> are estimated to be 0.2862 and 3.1465, respectively. </sec><sec> 2) The Pearson correlation coefficient between Baidu migration index and the number of travelers sent by railway is 0.9108, which indicates a strong linear correlation between them, thus it can be deduced that Baidu migration index is an efficient tool for estimating the migration situation. </sec><sec> 3) The epidemic arrival times for different provinces in China are estimated via simulations, specifically, no more than 1 day within an estimation error of 41.38%; no more than 3 days within an error of 79.31%, and no more than 5 days with an error of 95.55%. An average estimation error is 2.14 days. </sec>

Application of mathematical function model in morphological description and classification of bone defect in cleft palate cases

Objective: To establish the functional models based on various shapes of bone defects in isolated cleft palate patients and to classify the bone defects of the cleft palate cases using different functional curves. Methods: Tracking back from January 2018 to December 2018, 143 patients with cleft palate (Veau Ⅰ & Ⅱ) treated in Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology, were included (age of 7 months to 25 years, average age 1.6 years, median age 1.0 year, the male to female ratio was 0.57∶1).The pre-operative (CT) data sets were reconstructed into a three dimensional model to produce a direct image of the cleft palate. According to the shapes of the bone defect, cleft palate cases were divided into three types, i.e."" shape, inverted "V" shape and inverted "U" shape, and then the cases were assessed and reviewed by five examiners independently. Using Microsoft Excel software, the curves of the bone defect were placed in the coordinate system for mathematical modeling, including exponential function (y=ae(bx)), linear function (y=ax+b) and logarithm function (y=alnx+b). The function of the maximum fit R(2) value was used as the final fit curve. Statistical analysis was performed in four aspects: ① The reliability and feasibility of the curve fitting of the functions; ② The calculation of the composition ratio of the types of bone defect; ③Analyzing the correspondence between the subjective judgment results and fitting function curves; ④ The R(2) values of three types of functional curves homologous to different morphological types, and the data were tested by variance analysis and P values were shown. Results: Among the 143 patients with cleft palate, the "" shaped defect accounted for 18% (26/143), the inverted "V" shaped defect accounted for 31% (44/143), and the inverted "U" shaped defect accounted for 51% (73/143). The coincidence rate of the "" shaped defect with the exponential function (y=ae(bx)) was 96%, the coincidence rate of the inverted "V" shaped defect with the linear function (y=ax+b) was 82%, and the coincidence rate of the inverted "U" shaped defect with the logarithmic function (y=alnx+b) was 93%. The differences in R(2) values amongst the three groups were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusions: The shapes of bone defects of the incomplete cleft palate can be described by functional curve models which include exponential, linear and logarithmic functions and can be used to classify and lay the foundation for digital classification of cleft lip and palate cases.

Average Case Approximation: Convergence and Tractability of Gaussian Kernels

We study the problem of approximating functions of d variables in the average case setting for a separable Banach space \({\mathcal{F}}_{d}\) equipped with a zero-mean Gaussian measure. The covariance kernel of this Gaussian measure takes the form of a Gaussian that depends on shape parameters \({\gamma }_{\mathcal{l}}\). We stress that d can be arbitrarily large. Our approximation error is defined in the \({\mathcal{L}}_{2}\) norm, and we study the minimal average case error \({e}_{d}^{\mathrm{avg}}(n)\) of algorithms that use at most n linear functionals or function values. For \({\gamma }_{\mathcal{l}} = {\mathcal{l}}^{-\alpha }\) with \(\alpha \geq 0\), we prove that \({e}_{d}^{\mathrm{avg}}(n)\) has a polynomial bound of roughly order \({n}^{-(\alpha -1/2)}\) independent of d iff \(\alpha \,\,>\,\,1/2\). This property is equivalent to strong polynomial tractability and says that the minimal number of linear functionals or function values needed to achieve an average case error \(\epsilon \) has a bound independent of d proportional roughly to \({\epsilon }^{-1/(\alpha -1/2)}\). In the case of algorithms that use only function values the proof is non-constructive. In order to compare the average case with the worst case studied in our earlier paper we specialize the function space \({\mathcal{F}}_{d}\) to a reproducing kernel Hilbert space whose kernel is a Gaussian kernel with shape parameters \({\gamma }_{\mathcal{l}}^{\,\mathrm{rep}}\). To allow for a fair comparison we further equip this space with a zero-mean Gaussian measure whose covariance operator has eigenvalues that depend on a positive parameter q. We prove that the average cases for the whole space and for the unit ball of \({\mathcal{F}}_{d}\) are roughly the same provided the \({\gamma }_{\mathcal{l}}^{\,\mathrm{rep}}\) decay quickly enough. Modeling healthcare resource dynamics and its application based on interregional population mobility.

This study aims to assess the impact of inter-regional population mobility on epidemic progression and healthcare resource congestion during acute infectious disease outbreaks, providing a scientific basis for population control and healthcare resource allocation during pandemics. Using the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic as a case study, we selected two city pairs-"Taiyuan-Jinzhong" and "Linfen-Yuncheng" as research subjects. Based on real SARS-CoV-2 transmission data and the Baidu Migration Index, we constructed a dynamic healthcare resource model incorporating population mobility factors. We quantified epidemic transmission and healthcare resource congestion using three indicators: cumulative cases, the onset time of healthcare resource congestion, and its duration. By analyzing these metrics, we explored the effect of migration rates on infection scale and healthcare resource congestion. The model-fitted curves closely aligned with the actual data, with most observed data points falling within the 95% confidence interval. Our results suggest that population mobility affects both cumulative cases and healthcare resource congestion, with variation between regions. Unidirectional restrictions on population movement reduced cumulative cases in the outflow region, delayed the onset of healthcare resource congestion and shortened its duration; however, they also increased cumulative cases in the inflow region, advanced the onset of healthcare resource congestion and prolonged its duration. Bidirectional movement restrictions increased cumulative cases in high-prevalence regions, but did not change the onset time of healthcare resource congestion and either maintained or increased its duration. In contrast, in low-prevalence regions, bidirectional restrictions reduced cumulative cases, maintained the onset time of healthcare resource congestion, and either shortened or maintained its duration. The healthcare resource dynamics model provides an effective framework for simulating the interplay between population mobility, epidemic transmission, and the congestion on medical resources. In the event of an infectious disease outbreak, this model can be integrated into a regionally unified platform for healthcare resource allocation. By incorporating real-time epidemic data and the healthcare capacities of different areas, the model enables targeted interventions based on the principles of zoning, classification, and time-based management. This approach helps to contain the spread of the epidemic, ease pressure on medical systems, and minimize socio-economic disruptions.
