Abstract

Kevin Powers served with the U.S. Army in Mosul and Tal Afar, Iraq, in 2004 and 2005. He is the author of The Yellow Birds, a poetic and lyrical novel inspired by his personal experience of war. The Yellow Birds received The Guardian First Book Award and the 2013 Hemingway Foundation/PEN Award.
