Abstract

The results of an international survey conducted by the Commission on Education of the World Leisure and Recreation Association, were published in 1986. This article is an attempt to review this original set of data collected throughoutthe world. Cultural differences impose strong limitations in the interpretation of the data. However, the survey has gathered valuable descriptive information about one thousand institutions involved in leisure, park, recreation, tourism and many other related fields. It covers forty-two countries distributed over the five continents.
