Abstract

Summary Prior dimensional analyses of the Least Preferred Co-Worker (LPC) scale identify underlying task and interpersonal dimensions. However, these studies factor analyze LPC scores for an entire group and ignore differences among low, moderate, and high categories. With the use of a multistage sample of 2083 work supervisors, LPC scores for these three groups were factor analyzed. Results illustrated interpersonal and task dimensions for the moderate category. However, the factorial dimensions for low and high LPC categories were, although similar, neither task nor interpersonal types but rather a combination of the two. These findings suggest (a) that low and high LPC groups may be more similar than prior research would suggest and (b) a need for continued research on the dimensional characteristics of the LPC.
