Abstract
A general theory of nuclear reactions is formulated which is valid for arbitrary short-range interactions between identical nucleons and which is independent of any assumptions about the existence of a nuclear radius. Assumptions are made, instead, about the analytic character of the reduced transition matrix. Both resonance and direct reactions, as well as the relation between them, follow directly from the formalism.
