Abstract

HDR brachytherapy is commonly used for vaginal cuff treatment. The vast majority of radiation therapy facilities, according to a recent ABS survey, used the single channel HDR vaginal cylinder. The potential use and efficacy of Mammosite balloon in HDR vaginal cuff brachytherapy (VCB) has been recently reported. The major disadvantage to using a single channel applicator is the pronounced anisotropy seen at the vaginal apex. In this study, we have evaluated and inter-compared the single channel 3 cm diameter HDR cylinder, the 4-channel Wright vaginal applicator, the single lumen Hologic Mammosite, and the multi lumen Senorex Contura brachytherapy balloon in VCB.
