Abstract

Young Vivien J. Lim had a certain light about her, and she seemed destined for great things. By all accounts, she had a remarkable generosity of spirit, was both wise and brave, and somehow, while gifted with wonderful talents in both the arts and sciences, she remained both humble and levelheaded. In May 2012, Lim, then an engineering psychology student at Tufts University, was diagnosed with myoepithelial carcinoma of the parotid salivary gland, which is an extremely rare type of cancer where standard therapy is not available. Lim passed away on 26 September 2013, at the age of 24.
