Abstract

An obturator in the palatal region improves function by closing the palatal defect, preventing regurgitation, improving swallowing and speech. Though in past, there have been techniques described for palatal obturator fabrication, but there have not been any techniques to devise an obturator for a patient with palatal defect along with an overlying quad helix orthodontic appliance for arch expansion. This article describes an innovative way of fabricating a palatal obturator in such patients, that aims at restoring the above mentioned functions along with improving esthetics and being cleansable. Such a prosthesis would improve patient psychology, confidence and thus be a boon for them.
