Abstract

W-CDMA is one of the RTT (radio transmission technology) proposals considered by IMT-2000. Initial cell search in a W-CDMA system is an important factor to determine the performance of the whole system. The initial cell search is typically carried out in three steps. In this paper, an initial cell search scheme robust to frequency error is proposed. The proposed scheme includes frequency error and channel estimation methods using the correlation properties of the synchronization codes. Simulation results show that the performance of this scheme is superior to that of the conventional one even in the presence of very high frequency error.
