Abstract
It is a well known fact that the rudder turns more smoothly and more efficiently in accordance with the turns of the screw spindle of the gear, if the difference of the distances travelled by the nuts is smaller.After several investigations the writer found that the simplest and most effective process is to give an angle to the arms of cross-head when the gear is of such a simple mechanism.The writer explains the process to determine the suitable angle to be given to the arms of cro s-head in order to lessen the difference of the travelling distances of the nuts.
