Abstract

An improved microstrip to waveguide transition that consists of a ridge waveguide impedance transformer with the last step extending over the microstrip line and assuring a good electrical contact without soldering is studied using a full-wave electromagnetic model. The intermediate loaded ridge waveguide is analyzed basing on the transverse resonance method and the dispersion characteristics of modes, including complex types, are presented. Preliminary results show that improved mechanical stability can be coupled to good return loss.
