Abstract

This review delves into the use of natural super disintegrating agents in pharmaceutical drug formulations. Disintegrants are incorporated into these formulations to aid in breaking down tablets and capsules, promoting rapid dissolution by facilitating their dispersion into smaller particles. Super disintegrants, distinguished by their notable swelling capacity, play a pivotal role in expediting drug disintegration within the gastrointestinal tract. The selection of an appropriate super disintegrant hinges on several factors, including chemical compatibility, swelling potential, disintegration speed, particle size, cost, manufacturing methods, and adherence to regulatory standards. The piece elucidates the diverse mechanisms through which super disintegrants foster the disintegration of solid dosage forms. These mechanisms encompass swelling, wicking, heat-induced wetting, chemical reactions, particle repulsion, and deformation recovery. A comprehensive grasp of super disintegrants' properties and mechanisms is indispensable for ensuring the effectiveness, safety, and cost-efficiency of drug formulations. This review article critically examines existing literature, offering a valuable resource for researchers and pharmaceutical professionals engaged in the development of efficient and safe pharmaceutical products.
