Abstract

The details of the local environment of Cu, Bi and Pb atoms in the ceramics of composition BiSrCaCuO and BiPbSrCaCuO are studied using EXAFS spectroscopy. It is shown that double Bi 2O 2 layers are formed in the first stages of the synthesis and do not change as a result of quenching. The perovskite-like fragment SrCaCuO significantly changes in the quenching and becomes most ordered in the Pb-containing ceramic sample of composition (2223). It is shown that the local environment of Pb atoms in the (2223) ceramic is substantially different from the environment of the Bi atoms, i.e., the Pb atoms do not occupy the sites of Bi atoms in a statistically uniform manner.
