Abstract

Abstract Numerous statistics have been proposed to evaluate offensive performance in baseball. Each statistic or estimator can be related to an explicit run production model. An evaluation of ten run production models is presented based on major league team run production in the period 1969–1976. The results are applied to evaluating individual players in both the American and National baseball leagues.
