Abstract
Based on the Xulan High-speed Rail, this paper constructs a multi-period DID model and analyzes the impact of the high-speed rail on small and medium-sized cities' economic development. The empirical analysis results show that from an overall perspective, the Xulan High-speed Rail significantly promote the economic growth of small and medium-sized cities along the route; from the perspective of different geographic locations, the high-speed rail has a more obvious promotion effect on the economic growth of the northwest region of China. The Xulan High-speed Rail has greatly shortened the time and space distance between cities and cities which are along the line, and reduced the cost of factor flow. The diffusion effect on the area along the line is greater than the siphon effect, and the marginal impact on underdeveloped areas is greater. This article provides a basis for the future high-speed rail in the layout of small and medium-sized cities and the formulation of regional industrial policies along the route.
