Abstract
A choice of high frequency power converter topology plays an important role in the battery charging of electric vehicles (EVs). Inductive power transfer (IPT) systems is more convenient and safer over conventional plug-in systems to charge the battery pack of EVs. Available IPT system can utilizes either zero voltage switching (ZVS) or zero current switching (ZCS) while maintaining sinusoidal power shape. While achieving ZVS and ZCS for all power switches simultaneously is a challenging task in wireless power transfer. The improvement of efficiency is done by utilizing ZCS and ZVS together at the cost of losing sinusoidal power shape and derating of system. In this paper an improved zero-voltage zerocurrent switching (ZVZCS) WPT topology is proposed. The soft switching for the converter switches is achieved with classical series compensation. The efficiency of converter is improved form its conventional topology. The simulation is done using MATLAB/SIMULINK for 1.2 kW load.
