Abstract

This paper presents some results of theoretical and practical work done to achieve a powerful and effective software test which satisfies safety and high reliability requirements. First of all, a short introduction is given, pointing out the important role testing is playing in the development of software for safety related computer systems, and describing the state of the art in this field. The main topics of this work are the elaboration and evaluation of systematic test methods, the definition of an effective test strategy which satisfies safety and high reliability requirements and the development of a concept outline for the test automation supporting the above mentioned effective test strategy. The paper closes with an outlook on the research and development work which still has to be done in the future, particularly concerning the testing of distributed and real-time computer systems.
