Abstract

In the present day situation, the toxicity in municipal solid waste has increased to a very high level leading to various problems. The main purpose of the study is to improve the quality of mixed solid waste by adding locally available biomass. It was observed that the feedstock for refuse derived fuel and biomethanation contains 12% and 20% toxicity, respectively, as a result degrading the energy potential of waste. By adding locally available wheat and soya bean husk having calorific values of 4,100 kcal/kg and 4,170 kcal/kg respectively, not only was the toxicity reduced but the energy content of respective feedstock was also enhanced
