Abstract

This paper aims to describe measures mainly based on two strategic and policy documents published by the Portuguese authorities that intend to be a guide for the coming years for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). These documents define contributions, policies and measures to comply with international commitments, dealing with renewable energies, energy efficiency and other issues. The two documents are the Portugal National Energy and Climate Plan 2030 (NECP 2030) and the Roadmap for Carbon Neutrality 2050 (RCN 2050), but other initiatives are also described. Very ambitious targets were established in order to put Portugal at the forefront of a sustainable and environmental friendly development, without losing competitiveness and increasing the well-being of the population.
