Abstract

Based on the analysis of the wind turbine aerodynamics, this paper aims to obtain the optimum drive torque for the adjustable pitch angle of the wind turbine with specific blade parameters, and to design electric variable pitch control system, where permanent magnet synchronous motors(PMSM) act as actuators and a fuzzy self-tuning PID control strategy is used in the position controller. The PMSM torque and rotational speed are regulated using the vector control strategy, and precise position control of the blade is achieved. Experimental results show high performance of the variable pitch controller and verify the validity of the principle and system designed.
