Abstract

An acoustic signal propagating in the combustible mixture flow may be amplified by causing periodic variations in the release of heat from the flame. It is shown that the acoustic conditions at the burner ports of commercial and industrial burners assist such amplification, which is inversely proportional to frequency and hence greatest where it is most likely to be troublesome.
