Abstract

HOW TO NURTURE clinical research in today's changing health care system is becoming a major topic of concern, not just to researchers and those in academic medicine but also to third-party payers and mainstream physicians. The American Medical Association (AMA) is reviewing some of the current problems and pressures plaguing clinical research with an eye toward how they might best be managed. Its Council on Scientific Affairs (CSA) held a 2-day conference on the topic in Washington, DC, and expects to develop an action plan to encourage new ways of stimulating this vital area of medical progress.
