Abstract

Introduction: Multidirectional instability (MDI) is characterised by an inability to maintain the humeral head centred in the glenoid fossa and symptomatic chronic shoulder subluxation or dislocation occurring in more than one direction. It has been hypothesised that abnormal muscle activity occurs in MDI, however there is little consensus regarding atypical muscle patterns. The aim of this study was to investigate the difference in shoulder muscle EMG patterns during abduction between MDI subjects and normal controls.
